Registration closes 7 days ahead of the meeting.

About EmpowHer Book Club

EmpowHer Book Club will be facilitated by Andraéa LaVant, our EmpowHer Book Club Curator. Participants can register through the link above.

Through EmpowHer Book Club, we’re not just reading books—we’re creating a space where stories spark change, amplify disabled women’s voices, and invite everyone to learn.

To keep discussions meaningful and engaging, registration will be capped at 25–35 participants, with a short waitlist for additional readers. This size allows for authentic conversation, community-building, and effective access support.

Each session will be hosted virtually via Zoom, with captions, ASL interpretation, and reasonable accommodations available upon request to ensure an inclusive and accessible experience for everyone.

If you require additional accommodations, please make a request upon signing up.

This group is open to all people of all ages. Be sure to put these selected books on your wishlist or library waitlist now before the meeting.

The Kiss Quotient - September 2026

Helen Hoang

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases–a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice–with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

As Michael and Stella’s no-nonsense partnership takes them out of the bedroom and into a fulltime practice relationship, being together starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

Sorrowland - October 2026

Rivers Soloman

Vern―seven months pregnant and desperate to escape the strict religious compound where she was raised―flees for the shelter of the woods. There, she gives birth to twins, and plans to raise them far from the influence of the outside world.

But even in the forest, Vern is a hunted woman. Forced to fight back against the community that refuses to let her go, she unleashes incredible brutality far beyond what a person should be capable of, her body wracked by inexplicable and uncanny changes.

To understand her metamorphosis and to protect her small family, Vern has to face the past, and more troublingly, the future―outside the woods. Finding the truth will mean uncovering the secrets of the compound she fled but also the violent history in America that produced it.

Rivers Solomon’s Sorrowland is a genre-bending work of Gothic fiction. Here, monsters aren’t just individuals, but entire nations. It is a searing, seminal book that marks the arrival of a bold, unignorable voice in American fiction.
