EmpowHer Camp Class of 2024

Meet our Class of 2024 EmpowHer Camp participants! Participants are joining our year-long EmpowHer Camp program from across the United States. Get to know a little more about each young woman below.

Abby

Rhode Island

Personal Motto: "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." -Wayne Gretzky

Meet Abby who would describe herself as adventurous, she loves going to new places and trying new things and experiences. When it comes to new experiences, the EmpowHer Camp journey is a first for her, “I'm looking forward to the whole experience of just going away for a week and getting to know everyone.” She is proud of getting into the National Honor Society at school. One day, Abby would like to go to college, earn a degree, and get a job that makes her happy. In her spare time, she enjoys doing different crafts, baking, especially Christmas cookies, and swimming. Her music taste is quite versatile from Miley Cyrus and Rihanna to 80’s era music and everything in between.

CeCe

New York

Personal Motto: Kindness Matters

CeCe would describe herself as kind, “I am always kind to others and try to make them happy.” One of CeCe’s main goals when she gets older is to become a teacher. Currently she is super proud that she is doing well in basketball. Other things that make CeCe happy are riding her golf cart and swimming. Music she can't get enough of is Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, and George Ezra. She is looking forward to talking to everyone, making friends, and just having fun during EmpowHer Camp.

Chenelle (CC)

Missouri

Personal Motto:  If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.

Meet CC who describes herself as determined; she is determined to be different in the best way possible. Her goals when she gets older is to lead her own non-profit for individuals with spinal cord injuries and get her bachelor's degree in business. She is already moving towards her goals and she is proud to be finishing her GED and starting her associates degree in business in August. In her spare time, CC loves anything outdoors such as water skiing, camping, swimming, and riding bikes as well as working out and watching true crime shows. When it comes to music, she loves anything hip hop and R&B. CC shared, “I am looking forward to the whole camping experience this summer as a part of EmpowHer Camp.”

Dasha

Colorado

Personal Motto:  My ultimate goal is to end up being happy.

Meet Dasha who would describe herself as focused. “When something interests me I’m very focused”. Dasha’s motto describes her perfectly because one of her goals when she is an adult is to get a well paying job that makes her happy and that she doesn't absolutely hate. She is really proud of winning the Most Math Growth Award in her school. Dasha loves being with her cats who are a 4 year old British shorthair and a 6 month old British longhair. She also loves hanging out with friends, food, art, and video games. Taylor Swift is her all time favorite artist. When it comes to the EmpowHer Camp journey, she is really looking forward to the Adirondack camping trip.

Evie

Ohio

Personal Motto:  "Your pain today will become your strength tomorrow.” -Stephen Richards

Meet Evie who would describe herself as persistent. Evie said, “Whenever I am faced with a challenge or difficult situation I will do my best to see it through to completion.” She enjoys a variety of things like crocheting, talking to her friends, learning about Slovak folk dress and biology, exploring local plant life, and listening to music. Her favorite music artist is Magdalena Bay, and her current favorite song is You Got by WJSN. In the future, Evie hopes to become a genetic counselor and work with patients while also working in disability advocacy. She is really looking forward to working with a mentor and completing the community project during her EmpowHer Camp journey.

Personal Motto: Discipline is the architect of success

Meet Ladania who describes herself as logical, because she tends to always look at data and do research before making certain decisions in order to be well informed. She is very proud of her accomplishments in school and being ranked #1 out of 99 students. Her biggest goal when she gets older is to become a mentor to girls like her, “I want girls to have someone to look up to without having to wait as long as I did.” Listening to music makes her the happiest and she has countless favorites but right now she loves listening to Melanie Martinez. She is most looking forward to learning new skills and finding out more about herself as a person when participating in EmpowHer Camp.

Lonny

Ohio

Personal Motto: Be nice today, it’ll make things just slightly okay, on this lonely, little blue dot.

Lonny would describe themselves as silly, because they are generally a goofy and creative person. They are proud of their drawing skills. “My (art skills) have improved significantly over the years, and I am at a place where I enjoy my drawings more than I critique them!” Other things that get them to their happy place consists of hanging with loved ones, reading, creating, listening to music, especially Tally Hall, and television shows Galavant and Community. A huge goal of Lonny’s is to graduate with a high school degree and an associate's degree in college at the age of 16. They are most looking forward to trying new stuff and going outside at EmpowHer Camp. “One of my favorite things in the world is helping other people, so this camp and the following year is something I am looking forward to.”

Maddie

Illinois

Personal Motto: “Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain.” -Vivian Greene

Meet Maddie who is a proud two-time National Champion and one-time World Champion in cheerleading. She would describe herself as resilient. “I've had a lot of setbacks and challenges, but I keep swinging!” In the future, she wants to be a paramedic, ER doctor, or otherwise work in the emergency response/emergency medicine field. She really enjoys listening to music with some of her favorites being Wild Things by Alessia Cara, Unstoppable by The Score, and Can't Hold Us (ft. Ray Dalton) by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. She also enjoys writing and would love to write and publish a book with a wheelchair-using protagonist. She is really looking forward to meeting other awesome disabled teenagers her age and going camping for the first time, specifically to try s'mores,“S'mores sound awesome!”

Personal Motto: Anyone can cook but only the fearless can be great

Meet Payton who would describe herself as creative. “I do a lot of different art stuff and I’m in a jewelry and ceramics class in school which really needs a creative outlook." Her creativity and passion for art fueled her favorite collage project which is the achievement she is most proud of. One of her goals is to start up an online shop for her art and become a museum curator when she's an adult. She also loves reading and playing video games with her little brother. Payton favorite artists are Imagine Dragons and QUEEN and some of her favorite songs are, “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush, “It’s Tough to be a God” from Road to El Dorado, and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from The Little Mermaid.

Rachel

Personal Motto: I don’t want to be the one with all the answers, for the best teachers are also good learners.

Meet Rachel who has been composing music since 8th grade and plays twenty instruments. Rachel would describe herself as analytic, “I’m always mindful of little details to everything I hear.” She enjoys learning Italian, cycling, swimming, composing and producing music, and science experiments. She’s heading to community college for an associate’s degree in music industry with the goal of transferring to Colgate University. After college, Rachel wants to teach music to elementary students. Rachel enjoys music by Oscar Peterson, Lou Monte, and many others. She is excited to jam out with the rest of EmpowHer Camp and exploring the outdoors.
